Protecting Children after Their Diagnosis

downbaby“When Tess was born with Down Syndrome, my husband and I made sure to access all the early intervention services that could help Tess reach her full potential,” said Judy Robinson, a mother of two, Program Director for the Environmental Health Fund, and a national leader in the movement for environmental health and justice. “But in the next year we learned Tess had been poisoned by the lead paint in our rental apartment.” She continued, “We moved out of our apartment within 24 hours of learning about Tess’s lead levels. But the tougher job of ensuring the products we bring into our new home are free from chemicals associated with the same learning problems that lead can cause is ongoing.”
